“Everyone alive has suffered. It is the wisdom gained from our wounds and from our own experiences of suffering that makes us able to heal.” (Rachel Naomi Remen)Redwing Keyssar, RN, Author & Poet, of the MERI CENTER for Education in Palliative Care will guide us in using poem-making to explore our feelings, fears and ideas about life, health and healing.
In this one -hour session we will:
• Do brief self-introductions
• Listen to a poem or two
• Respond to the poems by simply repeating words or a line that resonates in you or makes you curious or questioning.
o The INTENTION is to stay more focused in our hearts, rather than our minds.
o We will come to appreciate the opportunity to just listen to the words and to each other's responses to the words. This is different than "discussing" a poem, which is not the intention in our short time together.
• THEN we do short writing sessions (2-5 minutes) based on a prompt
• If you choose to read what you have written (which we encourage!), then others will again reflect back what lines resonate for them.
SECOND TUESDAY of the MONTH at 4:15-5:15 PM PDT
• May 11 4:15-5:15
• June 8 4:15-5:15
• July 13 4:15-5:15
You DO NOT need to be a writer or a poet to join these sessions!
You will be surprised by the words that flow through you!
